Women’s volleyball player Hannah Campbell has been named Georgian Grizzlies Athlete of the Week after helping lead the Grizzlies to their 11th straight win this past weekend.
Campbell, a student in the Human Resource Management program, had 15 points in a win over Trent on Saturday and followed that with a team high 12-point effort in a win over Fleming on Sunday. The two wins put the Grizzlies firmly in first place in the east division with a 13-1 record on the season.
The Midland native’s four blocks on Saturday surpassed the previous all-time career record of 217 set by Durham’s Mandi Doris between 2005-10. Incredibly, Fanshawe’s Stephanie Bignell also passed the mark on Saturday and Campbell finished the weekend with 220 career blocks just four behind Bignell.
The two will continue to battle for the all-time record over the final month of the season.
Also in consideration for this week’s award was men’s volleyball player Darien Haynes who posted back-to-back 19 point efforts in two games on the weekend, men’s basketball player Braeden Wilkinson who had a season high 20 points in the Grizzlies win Sunday versus La Cité, and women’s basketball player Kelsey Dunkeld who had 16 points in the Grizzlies game against Algonquin Saturday.
