Barrie, ON – The Algonquin Thunder put an end to Georgian’s post-season hopes in women’s basketball with an 85-52 defeat of the Grizzlies in the final regular season game for both teams.
Georgian needed to defeat Algonquin in order to grab the final playoff spot in the OCAA East, but despite a solid effort from the Grizzlies, the Thunder showed why they are the top team in Ontario.
Sandre Bascoe led the Thunder with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Stacey Poapst added 14 points.
Georgian’s Danielle Horvat had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Katie Wiggins was the other Grizzly in double figures with 10 points.
The Grizzlies finished the year with a 5-11 record and said good-bye to graduating players, Kara Faulkner, Sarah Bulmer and Selina Franklin.
