Admission requirements

English language proficiency

The language of instruction at Georgian College is English. In addition to the academic admission requirements, all applicants for whom English is not their first language and/or are coming from countries where English is not an official language, must provide proof of language proficiency.

Applicants must meet ONE of the following criteria to meet Georgian’s language proficiency requirements:

• Must have completed three full years of study at the secondary school (high school) level in English in a country where English is a primary language (four years are required for BScN, Pharmacy Technician and Addictions: Treatment and Prevention. Study must be in Canada only for Pharmacy Technician) OR
• Must have completed one full year of study in an accredited postsecondary program in English in a country where English is a primary language (not applicable to BScN, Pharmacy Technician and Addictions: Treatment and Prevention) OR
• Must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or Canadian provincial equivalent) and English credit (Grade 12 U, M or C) issued by a public or Catholic school board (not applicable to BScN, Pharmacy Technician and Addictions: Treatment and Prevention) OR
• Provide proof of graduation from one of the authorized Georgian College partner school pathway programs (not applicable to BScN or Pharmacy Technician) OR
• Must have completed three years of study at a secondary private school in Ontario and received an Ontario Secondary School Diploma and English credit (Grade 12 U, M or C)

If you’re applying through the Student Direct Stream (SDS) program, please note the following test scores:

• IELTS (International English Language Testing System Academic): 6.0 overall band score, with no band lower than 6.0
• CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Test): Minimum overall score of 60
• PTE (Pearson Test of English Academic): Minimum overall score of 60
• TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language iBT): Minimum overall score of 83

For programs listing a higher test requirement, the higher score will be required for admissions. Priority for admission will be given to those who meet SDS requirements. Review the list of eligible SDS countries on the SDS website. Please note, only IELTS is eligible if the application was received prior to Aug 10, 2023.

If you don’t meet any of the above criteria, you’ll be required to submit an acceptable English language proficiency test with the appropriate score. Final admission will not be granted until this requirement has been met. English language tests older than two years will not be considered.

Accept your offer

You or your representative will receive an automated email from IAS regarding any further action required or an admission decision.

After receiving this email, accept the offer by following these steps:

1. Login to the IAS portal
2. Accept the pre-admissions invoice (this MUST be done before paying the deposit)
3. Pay the non-refundable deposit of $2,500 CAD by the due date indicated, through an international education payment processor
4. Upon receipt of your deposit, your official letter of acceptance (LOA) will appear in your IAS portal (providing applicant has met all requirements)

Note: You must pay the deposit by the payment deadline in order to confirm your seat in the program

Apply for study permit/visa

Once you receive the official letter of acceptance (LOA) and tuition receipt, you may apply for a student permit/study visa letter from the Canadian Embassy or consulate.

Some countries require a student permit and a visa.

If your program has a co-op, field placement, field training, industry placement, practicum, clinical placement, practical experience or internship, you will need a work permit to complete your program.

Note: The application process could take between four to six months.

If your study permit application is refused, a full refund will be issued if proof of the refusal is submitted within the first 10 working days of the term.

Other documentation

Clinical and field placement forms

It is the student’s responsibility to complete and submit all records and documents as requested by the program area. These documents are required prior to the start of registration in order to ensure your placement and to allow participation in clinical and field placement facilities. The college assumes no responsibility for these matters and students should be aware that we are unable to refund tuition in the event that access to a placement is denied. Review the documents by program (primarily for Health, Wellness and Sciences and Human Services).

Environmental programs requirements

The Environmental Technician (ENTN) and Environmental Technology (ENVR) programs strongly suggest that students have their driver’s licence prior to co-op work term one (the summer between semesters two and three). For application purposes, having a licence prior to applying to co-op work term positions during semester two is strongly recommended. Many employers require a full G licence and will screen applicants based on this.

Register for courses

Full fees must be paid in order to register for courses.

To be eligible to register for classes, the following conditions must be met:

1. you are admitted into a program (final or conditional);
2. your non-refundable tuition deposit is fully paid;
3. full semester fees are paid; and
4. proof of your approved study visa/port of entry is received.

Upload your proof of visa status to your application in the IAS system. If an agent submitted the application on your behalf, they will also be required to complete this step.

Important notes

• Your registration date will occur about one month before the start of each term. This date is important because it is when you’re guaranteed a full-time timetable.
• Understanding when your registration window opens is essential before you can select a timetable. To guarantee a complete full-time timetable, you must register online during the registration window for your program.
• When the add/drop period opens, registration opens to all students and there can be difficulty registering into full-time timetables; full-time timetables are not guaranteed.
• You are strongly encouraged to register prior to your arrival in Canada to maximize course availability.
