Brandon, sitting in the Aboriginal Resource CentreInternational Business Management alumnus and current Honours Bachelor of Business Administration (Management and Leadership) student Brandon Pitawanakwat hails from Sudbury and also has an accounting diploma, graduate certificate in organizational management, and a certificate in entrepreneurship.

His short-term goal is to help his mother start and run a restaurant called Crowned Eagle – it serves high-end Indigenous cuisine.

“I helped her write a comprehensive business plan and we’re securing funding now,” he says.

Longer term, Brandon hopes to work in finance, so he says the International Business Management graduate certificate seemed like a good fit.

“When I started at Georgian, I noticed that it was a lot larger than I was used to. I also noticed how diverse it was,” he says. “My program was almost all international students, which I enjoyed quite a bit. I learned about other cultures, and taught them about Indigenous culture – in a world that’s getting smaller and smaller, this is beneficial.”

He also enjoyed the focus on entrepreneurship (Georgian’s exC!te Experience was his second pitch competition). The funds he won will help make Crowned Eagle a reality.

“Balancing school, my project management course, business planning, funding requests, and my part-time job were challenging, but I enjoyed it.”
