OSAP Default Clearance

Canada Student Loan

When a student has defaulted on previous Canada Student Loans, they must apply for clearance to be considered for further OSAP funding. They can apply for clearance by writing a letter explaining what efforts they have made to avoid defaulting on their loan or what circumstances led to the default and what efforts they have since made to pay back the loan. Remorse for past actions and clear goals for the future (and repayment of future loans) should be stated in the letter.
The request must include Social Insurance Number, return address, telephone number (including area code) and the name of the post-secondary institution that they are planning to attend. Contact the National Student Loan Service Centre at 1-888-815-4514 and ask to speak to a Canada Student Loan Representative
Allow approximately 12 weeks for a decision to be made regarding the granting of a request for clearance.
